The New Orleans Saints continued their week of practice g for Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles as the tries to get over the bad performance in Denver and get back on the winning track.
Thursday the hand injury to running back Darren Sproles didn't seem so serious. Partly because assistant coach Joe Vitt didn't elaborate on the injury and the other because you just figured or well it’s just a bruise or something. After all it’s Sproles the toughest little guy on the field.
Sproles however had surgery to repair a broken hand. Which hand and how or when it happened was never specified by the team, or was a time table given for his return. Wide receiver Courtney Roby also didn't practice on Thursday and like Sproles will not play in the game on Monday night against Philadelphia.
Travaris Cadet is not likely to replace Sproles as he has been moved to receiver and seems to be the position the team wants him to grow at. “We had moved him to receiver so right now he’s focusing on that position,” said offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael after practice Friday. “We have Pierre (Thomas) and Mark Ingram. Chris Ivory has a chance to step into a role and those guys pick up. Next man up.”
So could Cadet be called in for duty in the backfield this week? “We had moved him to receiver so right now he’s focusing on that position. We have Pierre (Thomas) and Mark Ingram. Chris Ivory has a chance to step into a role and those guys pick up. Next man up.”
Naturally the possibility of Chris Ivory finally getting an opportunity to play pops in one’s mind. Ivory last week was active but did not play a down in Denver. “I think we’re going to have to have a few guys that pick up the slack,” Carmichael says. “Chris has been patient. He’s been great. He’s been out at every practice and has given us his all, his best effort. This will be a chance for him to get some opportunities.”
If this doesn’t get Ivory into the game then I don’t know what will.
The Saints will continue their week of practice through the weekend. Monday the Saints host the Eagles on Monday Night Football.
