Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder will headline the second week of the 2012 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Thursday, May 3. Vedder's last New Orleans appearance, bottle of wine in hand, was Pearl Jam's 2010 Jazz Fest set. This year he'll perform solo, in support of his latest output, a collection of songs performed on ukelele (2011's very literally titled and Grammy-nominated Ukelele Songs). The album is a typical "departure" effort from the landmark band's pioneering, guitar-grinding rock music, and Vedder cozies up with the likes of small orchestral arrangements and Cat Power while covering his bases with arching themes of loneliness, grief and a few moments of bliss — with a uke, no less.
Jazz Fest also announced another act will be revealed tomorrow, and the festival also will unveil its day-by-day lineup.
Here's another current Vedder outing, this time on IFC's Portlandia:
