Fans of that old-time rock and roll will be pleased to know that the Ponderosa Stomp showcase and conference is expanding, adding sponsored gigs with Louisiana luminaries of the past - like Lazy Lester, Li'l Buck Sinegal and Tami Lynn, to name a few - throughout the year. Shows that have been confirmed for the rest of '08 and early '09 include events in San Francisco, Cleveland's Rock n'Roll Hall of Fame, and SXSW 2009 in Austin, Texas. But there's no need to wait (or buy plane tickets.) Ringleader and fez-wearer Dr. Ike will be cracking open the vault and spinning scratchy old 45's tonight at the R Bar on Royal and Touro Street in the Marigny, after 10 p.m., along with Stomp artist manager Lefty Parker. And for those who like to stroll with a cocktail on a balmy summer night, DJ Pasta is hosting his bi-monthly Alligator Chomp DJ night up the street at Mimi's in the Marigny (Royal at Franklin St.), featuring vintage Louisiana rockabilly and swamp pop. He's joined on the decks by Mitch Palmer - lap steel player for the local traditional-country outfit the Haunted Hearts and holder of an M.A. in Southern Studies from Ole Miss to boot. Go on and get schooled.
