The New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation will host its 15th annual fundraiser, which has been invaluable to the organization in the past. The black-tie affair will feature non-stop music until 1 a.m. by popular local performers Fredy Omar con su Banda (pictured) and Julio y Cesar. The summer party's theme for this year will be "Suenos Caribenos" (or "Caribbean Dreams") and will feature a selection of food and a silent auction. All proceeds from the Azucar Ball will go to the foundation's scholarship fund, which has helped the Hispanic community in New Orleans for years. Last year, proceeds from the ball made it possible for 24 Hispanic students from New Orleans to attend private, competitive high schools. "It's the most elegant Hispanic event of the year," says Juan Barona, a committee member for the Azucar Ball. "It raises money for worthy students, and it's definitely a fun party to end the summer season." Dina Boyle and Lourdes Hanemann will co-chair the event. Tickets $100 for the ball, $125 including Patron Party; "Junior" tickets for ages 25-under $35.
