Apolline Opens on Magazine Street

The news broke this summer that chef Dominique Macquet planned to leave his namesake restaurant to start a new one, using the same name, just a few blocks down the street. Macquet stayed on until November, and the question lingered about what would become of the original Dominique's on Magazine.

The answer is Apolline (4729 Magazine St., 894-8881;, a new restaurant with chef Matthew Farmer running the kitchen. Apolline opened Nov. 22 and serves dinner Tuesday through Saturday.

Farmer previously was sous chef at the tapas restaurant Salu (3226 Magazine St., 371-5809; His menu for Apolline has a contemporary Creole focus, with highlights including drum with a paella-style risotto, seared scallops with corn and lima bean succotash and smoked crab salad with aioli. Some of the dishes from Dominique's on Magazine will remain on the menu, notably a popular appetizer of sweetbreads with chimichurri.

Meanwhile, Macquet is working on two restaurant concepts. The new Dominique's on Magazine is slated to open in the spring at 4215 Magazine St., and Tamarind by Dominique is scheduled to open before the end of the year inside the newly redeveloped Hotel Modern New Orleans (936 St. Charles Ave., 962-0900) on Lee Circle.
