American Ballet Theatre Studio Company and Stars

In a special performance for New Orleans, American Ballet Theatre presents some of its most accomplished dancers performing some of the company's most famous works. The extraordinary company is one of the world's leading dance troupes and has a very large repertoire from 19th century classics up through specially commissioned pieces by modern masters like Twyla Tharp, Jerome Robbins and Antony Tudor. Founders Lucia Chase and Oliver Smith created the company in 1939 and built its reputation. In 1980, the legendary Mikhail Baryshnikov took over as artistic director and sharpened its classical techniques and works. The company's new artistic director is Kirk Peterson, a native of New Orleans, who will host pre-preformance talks both evenings beginning at 7:15 p.m. The program features "White Swan Pas De Deux" and "Black Swan Pas De Deux" from Swan Lake, Antony Tudor's Lilac Garden and new works developed by Peterson. Dancers include Maxim Beloserkovsky, Irina Dvorovenko and Gillian Murphy and soloist Gennadi Saveliev. Tickets $30-$80. -- Will Coviello
