Albasha opens in Metairie

The Baton Rouge-based chain Albasha Greek & Lebanese Restaurant (3501 Severn Ave., Metairie, 504-304-8440; has opened a location near Lakeside Shopping Center.

Albasha now has eight locations, with most in the Baton Rouge area. Its inexpensive menu is noted for large portions and attractive presentations of standards such as gyro, shawarma and falafel, along with a few Greek dishes.

There's mousaka (made either with eggplant or squash) and a lamb shank plate, and platters include salads with creamy feta cheese dressing. The Albasha menu also has more seafood than most local Middle Eastern restaurants, with shrimp scampi, broiled redfish and shrimp kebabs served with hummus and rice pilaf. Meza platters for two or three people provide large samplings of menu highlights.

Albasha serves lunch and dinner daily. The Metairie location is BYOB.
