Air Guitar Nation

Though it may seem like a parody, director Alexandra Lipsitz's Air Guitar Nation is an actual rocumentary about the now globally competitive sport of imitating a musician. In 2003, producer Magical Elves plugged into the international air-guitar contests and decided to record the debut of Americans into worldwide air guitar competitions. Air Guitar Nation follows some of the leading talents in guitarless performance, like the famed "C-Diddy" (pictured) and "Bjourn Turoque," as they pick and riff their way toward the finals in Oulu, Finland. Watch them grind air in grueling 60-second bouts before the judges as the film chronicles their rivalries, friendships and obstacles through the eyes of former champions, fans and the first world-class American air guitarists themselves. Air Guitar Nation won the 2006 Audience Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Presented by the New Orleans Film Festival. Tickets $7.50 general admission, $6.50 NOFF members. -- Emily Hohenwarter
