2011 Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel

Contra Costa County, California

$11-$17 Retail

Zinfandel is a good match for foods cooked via outdoor grilling, smoking or pit cooking. Grapes for this wine were sourced from vineyards planted more than a century ago. Following fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, the wine was aged for eight months in new and used American oak. It offers aromas of dark cherry, plum, roasted coffee, hints of vanilla and smoke. On the palate, taste red and black berries, jammy notes, pepper, a touch of chocolate and smooth tannins. Decant 30 minutes before serving. Drink it with grilled, smoked or barbecued ribs, pork, chicken and beef; Gouda, feta and goat cheeses; lasagna and other hearty dishes. Buy it at: The Wine Seller, Matassa's, Prytania Liquor Store, most Rouses, some Breaux Marts and Winn-Dixies, Robert Fresh Market on Robert E. Lee Boulevard, Whole Foods Markets, Dorignac's, Martin Wine Cellar in Metairie, Sam's Clubs, Acquistapace's Covington Supermarket, Saia's Super Meat Market and Albertson's. Drink it at: Mr. B's, Olivier's, Sake Cafe Uptown, The Delachaise and P.F. Chang's.
