2010 Tarima Monastrell

Jumila, Spain

$8-$9 Retail

A bargain lover's delight, this high-quality, bold red wine was produced in southeastern Spain from 25- to 35-year-old vineyards 2,100 feet above sea level. Made from 100 percent Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) grapes, the wine was fermented and aged sur lie (without a filtering step) in stainless steel. The wine achieves a delicate balance between savory fruit, bright acid and firm tannins. It offers fragrant aromas of dark red berries and spice as well as floral and herbal notes. On the palate, taste plum, black cherry, hints of cocoa and black pepper. Decant an hour before serving. Drink it with tapas, tamales, grilled meats, sausages, game, roasts, pizza, burgers and aged Manchego cheese. Buy it at: Terranova Brothers Superette, Cost Plus World Markets. — BRENDA MAITLAND
