2008 Long Boat Sauvignon Blanc

Marlborough, New Zealand / $18 Retail

Classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs often present an intriguing contrast and excellent balance between green fruits, herbal and savory aromas, and both tart and sweet tropical, stone and citrus fruit flavors. This wine is cold fermented primarily in stainless steel, and a portion of the juice was fermented in older, mostly neutral oak barrels which imparted some spice while toning down the grape's grassy, herbal character. Intense aromas of passion fruit, lime, grapefruit, green apples and hints of fresh herbs lead into crisp flavors of kiwi, tropical fruits, lemon-lime, pink grapefruit and refreshing minerality. Drink it with a variety of foods like artichokes, asparagus, salads, sushi, seafood dishes, fruit, cheeses, chicken, soups, and Asian and Cajun cuisines. Buy it at: Hopper's Wines and Spirits. Drink it at: Muriel's Jackson Square. — Brenda Maitland
