2008 Joseph Mellot Sancerre La Chatellenie

Loire Valley, France / $22 Retail

A beautiful expression of the Sauvignon Blanc grape, this refreshing and vibrant wine was crafted from the Mellot Estate vineyards in Sancerre, where quality wines have been produced for more than five centuries. In the glass, it features harmonious flavors of ripened fruit, a distinctive flintiness, some citrus and stony minerality. The finish is marked by a well-balanced crisp acidity. It's a great accompaniment to raw oysters, fish and shellfish, salads, artichokes, asparagus soup, goat cheese and Asian cuisines. Buy it at: Swirl Wines. Drink it at: Bayona, Herbsaint, Dick and Jenny's and Emeril's Delmonico. — Brenda Maitland
