2008 Conquista Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina / $10 Retail

Argentine Malbec remains in the spotlight for American consumers. Many high-end wines come out of Mendoza, but this acclaimed bottling is a good value. A blend of 88 percent Malbec with small amounts of Bonarda, Merlot and Shiraz, this robust, medium-bodied wine offers aromas of dark cherry, mocha, peppercorn and smoky notes, and layered flavors of blackberry, plum, raspberry and spice. Decant several hours before serving. Drink it with rich and hearty dishes including game, roasted vegetables, grilled meats, barbecue, pasta and stews. Buy it at: Cost Plus World Markets. Drink it at: Liborio Restaurant.— Brenda Maitland
