2007 Zolo Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina / $12-$15 Retail

America's love affair with Argentine Malbec continues, and wines like this one — value priced, fruit forward, big and velvety — enhance the varietal's attractiveness. Aged six months in French oak, this 100 percent Malbec wine offers aromas of ripe black fruit with nuances of leather, smoke and espresso. On the palate, complex blackberry and black cherry flavors mingle with earth notes and well-integrated tannins to provide an elegant, lingering finish. Drink it with lamb chops, rare beef and wild game. Buy it at: The Wine Seller, Elio's Wine Warehouse, Prytania Liquor Store, Dorignac's and Cellars of River Ridge. Drink it at: Slice Pizzeria and Tony Mandina's.
