Abruzzi, Italy / $12-$17 Retail

Not to be confused with Montepuciano, which produces a similarly named wine in Tuscany with mostly Sangiovese grapes, the Montepulciano grapes for this value-priced bottling come from central Italy's Abruzzi region near the Adriatic coast. This medium-bodied wine has an undercurrent of earthiness and tantalizing aromas of currants, berry fruit and cherry-cola flavors. It is well-balanced and has attractive complexity and a good finish. Drink it on its own or with grilled meats, fowl, pizza or pasta. Buy it at: Rouses Uptown and Cork & Bottle. Drink it at: Irene's Cuisine and Bar Cure.
