Priorat, Spain / $21-$22 Retail

The Priorat region, located west of Barcelona close to Spain's eastern coast, presents a remote outpost of rugged hillsides laced with ancient vineyards where some of the country's best wines are produced. It's a blend of 60 percent Carignan, 30 percent Garnacha and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, aged several months in barriques followed by tank and cask aging. The medium-bodied, velvety textured wine offers complex flavors of plum, black cherry, raspberry and currants spiked with pepper and spice. It's good with roast chicken, grilled sausages, tapas and Spanish cheeses. Buy it at: Swirl Wines. Drink it at: Herbsaint, Stella!, NOLA, Commander's Palace, The Grill Room at Windsor Court and Rambla. — Brenda Maitland
