2007 Acquagiusta Rosso

Toscana, Italy / $11-$12 Retail

This blend of 35 percent each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and 30 percent Syrah is from the vast coastal region of Maremma in southwestern Tuscany. The 2007 vintage was vinifed and aged entirely in stainless steel tanks and touched no oak. It offers intense aromas of preserved red and black berries, an earthy character, spice and cocoa. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine exudes flavors of black cherry, currants and cassis with herbal notes and silky tannins on the long, dry finish. Drink it with grilled meats, roasts, fowl and game. Buy it at: Dorignac's and Acquistapace's Covington Supermarket. — Brenda Maitland
