2005 Trinchero Chicken Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa, California / $30-$32 Retail

An opulent, complex but approachable bottling made from 100 percent Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine was aged mostly in French oak barrels. The well-balanced wine shows raspberry and plum aromas, vanilla notes, abundant cranberry, dried herbs and Rutherford's distinctive dusty, spicy berry character. Sturdy-yet-soft tannins and good acidity make it more food friendly than many Cabernets. Match it with meat, duck, game, hearty casseroles and aged cheeses. Buy it at: Rouses, most Winn-Dixies, Unique General Store, Dorginac's, Langenstein's in Metairie and Corkscrewed. Drink it at: Impastato's, Chops, Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Mr. Gyro's, Todaro's and Sal & Judy's. — Brenda Maitland
