Ribatejo, Portugal / $14-$15 Retail

The market for Portuguese still wines has developed steadily since newer technology from the New World and other European nations was introduced in the 1980s. Sourced from the Ribatejo region in southern Portugal, the grapes for this wine are a blend of half Touriga Naciona — one of the most important grapes for Port — and half Castelao. The wine was aged six months in French oak followed by another six months in the bottle prior to release. In the glass, it is accentuated by raspberry and dark berry flavors with spice notes and soft tannins on the finish. It goes well with a variety of dishes. Buy it at: Cork & Bottle and Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits. Drink it at: Cochon, Herbsaint, Lilette, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen at the French Market and Mimi's in the Marigny. — Brenda Maitland
