2004 Luis Felipe Edwards Doña Bernarda

Colchagua Valley, Chile / $30 Retail

The stunning geographical area of Colchagua lies about 93 miles south of Santiago, Chile, at 3,000 feet above sea level. A blend of 55 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 percent Shiraz, 15 percent Carmenere and 10 percent Cabernet Franc, this robust wine is aged 18 months in new French barrels and six months in the bottle prior to release. Intense aromas of red and dark berries, coffee and cocoa yield to complex tastes of black currants, dark chocolate, spice and toasty notes with firm tannins. Decant at least an hour before serving. It will improve with cellaring for five to 10 years. Drink it with rare steaks and chops, or spicy meats, chili or enchiladas. Buy it at: Dorignac's. Drink it at: Le Phare.
