As always, this year’s Satchmo SummerFest gave visitors and residents reason to celebrate. In addition to honoring the father of jazz Louis Armstrong with three days of free live music shows in the French Quarter, we got a taste of that second line flavor we’ve been feening for since June when parade season closes for the summer. While there are those diehards who would parade in the dead heat of New Orleans summer, most of us agree that sweating like a $2 hoe is not a cute look not to mention the real imminent threats to our health. And so we’ve come to depend on Satchmo second line to get us second line addicts over that two month hump.
As always, the Treme Brass Band, Grand Marshall Bo Monkey Red and the Baby Dolls set it off followed by the Zulus, Sudan and TBC Brass Band along with other clubs and bands. Check out Sunday’s scenery, allow it to soothe your soul while we wait for September.
