COURTESY LITTLE BIRD
The Little Bird pop-up from chefs Kristen Essig and Michael Stoltzfus has moved from Barrel Proof to Coquette.
Fans of Kristen Essig and Michael Stoltzfus’ Southern-style chicken pop-up Little Bird
will be happy to hear the team is resurrecting the theme at Coquette
(2800 Magazine St., 504-265-0421).
Sundays through Thursdays, the restaurant will serve an abbreviated Little Bird menu at the Magazine Street restaurant’s bar and offer wine, champagne and cider pairings. The previous menu was broadly focused on Southern staples (Broadbent country ham, pimiento cheese) but the new iteration is strictly chicken, though Essig says the menu will change seasonally.
Last year, the couple launched the Southern menu at Lower Garden District bar Barrel Proof
(1201 Magazine St., 504-299-1888) with the help of friend and chef John Sinclair. Last month, the bar owners announced Little Bird had been replaced with Sinclair’s bar food concept Barrel Proof Kitchen.
The menu now features a cold fried chicken sandwich with bread and butter pickles, tomatoes and sauce for $10 and an optional pairing of an Chappapeela Farmhouse Saison for $15. There’s also an optional half bottle of Paul Clouet Champagne accompanying fried chicken wings served with togarashi, peach hot sauce and ranch dressing. Guests can order the fried chicken solo, seasoned with hot paprika and served with whipped honey, as well as fries with malt aioli.
