After several weeks on the Billboard charts and inescapable radio play, rapper Young Greatness made his television debut performing his breakthrough single "Moolah" on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert July 12. "Moolah" is both a bittersweet ode to the hustle and a thankful prayer for surviving it — the New Orleans-raised rapper talked to Gambit this month about his long road to now, from the St. Bernard Projects to Hurricane Katrina to prison to the mixtape grind. His follow up, I Tried To Tell Em 2, is out now, with singles "Ball" and "Celebration" (featuring Akon) extending a theme of celebratory perseverance marked with his drowsy, liquid raps and musical flow.

"I try to keep the emotions in my music and give an opportunity to learn about me and some of the things I've been through in my life," he told Gambit. "Just telling a story through music, and just listening to my music and identifying who is Greatness. Just having one of those voices that commands people."

Greatness carried a full band performance with fellow New Orleanian and Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste — who hammered his piano into the song's lush melody — along with Batiste's Stay Human. Watch it below:
