The Broad Theater and Louisiana History Alive will present a special screening of New Orleans-made Civil War film Free State of Jones today, Sunday, July 3, followed by a Q&A with local cast members and crew. Directed by Gary Ross and starring Matthew McConaughey, the film tells the true story of Newton "Newt" Knight, who led an uprising against rebel forces in Jones County, Mississippi. In attendance will be local actors Kerry Cahill, Thomas Francis Murphy, Chris Berry, Dane Rhodes, Donald Watkins and Kesha Bullard, along with script supervisor Sam Sullivan, researcher James Kelly and historians Justin Nystrom, Mary Mitchell and David Slay.
A cocktail party in the lobby begins at 5 p.m. and the screening starts at 5:30. Tickets are $10. Read our review of the film here.
