New Orleans benefit concert for Orlando set for June 24

On June 24, New Orleans musicians and drag performers band together for an all-ages event benefiting victims and families of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando that killed 49 people and injured 53 others.

NOLA Beats for Orlando is 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, June 24 at The Sugar Mill (1021 Convention Center Blvd.) and features music from the Stooges Brass Band,  Tarriona "Tank" Ball of Tank & the Bangas, OTRA, Mia Borders, Khris Royal, Robin Barnes and Arsene DeLay & the Bayou Saints.

There also will be drag performances, food trucks and a blood drive to support New Orleans blood banks. The Voice's Tonya Boyd-Cannon will sing during a balloon release. Southern Decadence Grand Marshals Tony Leggio, Felicia Phillips, Derek Penton-Robicheaux and Jeffrey Palmquist also will appear.

All proceeds benefit the OneOrlando Fund for victims and families of the June 12 shooting, the deadliest attack on LGBT people in the U.S. Suggested donation for admission is $5.
