Magazine Street bakery and cafe Rivista will be closing Sunday, May 29 after three years in the business.
Uptown coffee shop and croissant standby Rivista
(4226 Magazine St., 504-371-5558) will close on May 29.
The owners of the Uptown breakfast and brunch spot made the announcement Wednesday (May 11) on its Facebook page:
"As much as we would like to continue on into another year, my husband Chris and I have decided to call it a day," owner Lisa Barbato wrote. "Please know that though this may seem like a sad occasion, it is actualy (sic) a good move for us and our family. We will miss Rivista and all that we have created here, but it is you that we will miss the most."
The petite coffee shop and bakery opened three years ago and gathered a following for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, buttery croissants, savory tarts and breakfast and lunch specials, which often featured fresh and local produce. Lisa Barbato said the decision to close was a difficult one but said she will still be selling cookies and pastries every Saturday at the Crescent City Farmers Market.
"We’re just gonna take a break for right now," Barbato said Thursday, adding that construction work on Napoleon Avenue and limited parking had put a strain on afternoon business.
On the bakery's last day of business, the team will throw a brunch with Champagne and cake, Barbato said. "We’re gonna go out with a party."
