  • Organizers raise a giant Wookiee effigy before the inaugural Ignition festival.
The inaugural Ignition festival was a Burning Man-like participant-generated camping, music and large-scale art installation event in New Orleans East. Organizers announced the second year, Ignition: Key to the Cosmos, will be Nov. 10-13. 

Ignition is a benefit for the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus, and shares its focus sci-fi mashups and creative building, The festival features themed camps, interactive experiences and massive structures, some of which are set on fire, A 42-foot pyramid will be burnt in November. 

The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus announced that it will hold its shoebox float event, Shoeboxus, in Bywater at 7 p.m. May 4, which many observe as Star Wars Day.
