During the first weekend of the 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the founding quartet of Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste, Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli and George Porter Jr. will reunite as the Original Meters.

The band performs a rare non-festival gig on Friday, April 22 at the Orpheum Theater. The Meters (dubbed as The Original Meters as opposed to other augmented lineups in The Funky Meters or The Metermen) reunited a few times in recent years, mostly making festival appearances. Nocentelli recently moved back to New Orleans after three decades in Los Angeles. The reunion performance will also feature Ivan Neville and horns from Jeff Albert, Tracy Griffin, Clarence Johnson III and Khris Royal.

Tickets go on pre-sale 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 13; regular ticket sales open 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15.
