The beloved BBC TV series Sherlock — which catapulted Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman to international stardom as modern-day versions of author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Homes and Dr. John Watson — returns from its long hiatus with a one-off 90-minute special to be broadcast nationally on PBS on New Year’s Day. Sherlock: The Abominable Bride transports our heroes back to the Victorian era of Doyle’s original stories. It will also receive theatrical screenings (with additional behind-the-scenes documentary footage) on Jan. 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Elmwood Palace. Advance tickets are available here. The long-awaited fourth season of Sherlock will be shot in early 2016 and is expected to air late in the year.
