If you were there on the sun-surface asphalt of Kenner's Ponchartrain Center parking lot in the summer of 2001, your wraparound-shaded eyes would've witnessed a wealth of familiar pop-punk bands, a blessing to mid-2000s teens in board shorts and plaid bondage pants who seemingly lived at Cypress Hall.
The lineup for the 2001 Vans Warped Tour included Rancid, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes, the Bouncing Souls, AFI, The Vandals and 311 — but that was the last time the event stopped in Louisiana.
For the first time in 15 years, the traveling music and extreme sports festival returns to Louisiana. The 2016 Vans Warped Tour heads to New Orleans on June 27. The venue, festival lineup and tickets will be announced in March.
Since its last Louisiana stop, Warped Tour has evolved into a more diverse music festival, incorporating more hip-hop, "-core" bands and electronic acts to its formerly punk and ska dominated lineup.
