Earlier this year, percussionist and vibraphonist Mike Dillon performed a tribute
to singer-songwriter Elliott Smith and tiki lounge man Martin Denny, a one-night only, seemingly undo-able midnight show at Preservation Hall.
The unpredictable jazz master is working on a Smith tribute album, Functioning Broke
, due out early next year. He's on tour through 2015 and January 2016 — he'll perform at Tipitina's on Friday, Nov. 20 with The Revivalists, and at the Contemporary Arts Center on Saturday, Dec. 12. Listen to his instrumental spin on Smith's somber New Moon
song "Half Right," brightened with bells and dancing vibraphones.
