There are those who believe Elvis Presley walks among us and presumably hangs out with comedian and reported fellow death-hoaxer Andy Kaufman. In the late 1970s even more people felt certain that Elvis faked his own death, especially after a mysterious artist and Elvis soundalike named Orion starting performing to large, adoring audiences. Dismissed early in his own career for sounding too much like The King, Jimmy "Orion" Ellis enjoyed brief fame as Orion yet ironically remained anonymous. Directed by Jeanie Finlay, documentary Orion: The Man Who Would Be King tells Ellis' strange story.
Presented by the New Orleans Film Society and the Contemporary Arts Center, the film screens tonight, Nov. 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the CAC, 900 Camp Street. More info here.
