JEFF STROUT/TIPITINA'S FOUNDATION
A krewe of running Elvi at the 2014 Tipitina's Foundation Rhythm & Blues Run.
Each week, the New Orleans Exercist brings you news and events for active living in the Big Easy. Pull out that Bjork costume and prepare your best Ernie K-Doe impression for Saturday's Tipitina’s Foundation Rhythm & Blues Run, or head to the smooth roads (what are those?) of the Northshore for the Crescent City Cyclists century ride.
- Yoga on Tap
at NOLA Brewing
(3001 Tchoupitoulas St., 504-301-0117; www.nolabrewing.com
) is back tomorrow night (Sept. 22). The free class is hosted Oak Street Yoga
and followed by a special happy hour.
- Give your swimsuit a final hurrah at NOLA Social Ride
’s “Bikini & Blues” Happy Thursday ride
, which begins at MoPho
(514 City Park Ave., 504-482-6845; www.mophonola.com
) on Thursday (Sept. 24) and promises a stop at Lake Pontchartrain.
- Karina Pivik teaches a free yoga class
at 6 p.m. Friday (Sept. 25) at the New Orleans Jazz Market (
1436 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.; www.phnojm.org
). Mats and props are provided.
- The Tipitina’s Foundation
supports local music, so naturally Saturday’s (Sept. 26) Rhythm & Blues Run
(501 Napoleon Ave., 504-895-8477; www.tipitinas.com
) is as much a festival as it is a 5K. Local school marching bands perform and there’s beer from New Belgium and NOLA Brewing and food from a smorgasbord of local restaurants. Top finishers in each age group win awards, but if you’re more about style than speed, there’s also prizes for “Best Individual Musician Costume” and “Best Musical Group Ensemble.” Registration
- The Crescent City Cyclists
hold their annual hold their annual century ride
in Covington on Saturday (Sept. 26). A century, or a 100-mile bike ride, is the “marathon” of cycling. Saturday also includes 25-, 50- and 62-mile routes – AKA, a “quarter century,” a “half century” and a “metric century.” Snacks, water, restrooms, a post-ride meal and beer are provided. Registration
- Also on Saturday, Audubon Park (6500 Magazine St.) hosts the NO/AIDS Walk for Life
and post-walk festival. A separate charity walk, the CROP Hunger Walk
, is based down the street at the St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church but also circles the park.
