World of Beer
The Julia Street location of World of Beer holds staff training.
(324 Julia St., 504-299-3599) opened Monday, Aug. 24, offering beers from around the globe, including 40 on draft and 500 in bottles and cans. Although the selection's geographic reach is impressive, World of Beer partners with local breweries as much as possible.
When Karlos Knott of Bayou Teche Brewing
learned that the World of Beer on Julia Street would be housed in a former molasses warehouse, he created a beer incorporating molasses for the opening.
The bar has a hand pump for specialty cask-conditioned beers as well as a beer infuser, through which beer gains flavors through exposure to select ingredients. For opening day, NOLA Brewing
’s brown ale was infused with toasted coconut and vanilla bean.
The Julia Street location is open from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Wednesday and from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Second Line Brewing’s
(433 N. Bernadotte St., 504-248-8979) beer is out of the fermentors and ready for sampling. The brewery held a soft opening of its beer garden the weekend of Aug. 21 and opens to the public Aug. 28. The beer garden and tap room will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Available beers include pale ale and IPA brewed on its 15-barrel system, and these beers will be in wider release in September. Tap room customers can try small batches brewed on Second Line’s pilot system. During the soft opening, choices included nut brown ale, summer session ale, smoked Irish red ale, Kolsch and red IPA. Beer is available by the pint or to go in 64-ounce growler jugs. Brewery T-shirts and pint glasses also are for sale.
