Those of us who took part in the original Austin, Texas punk rock scene of the 1980s remember The Dicks as an endlessly abrasive yet somehow endearing force of nature — every set the band ever played was in mortal danger of dissolving into chaos at any time. Director Cindy Marabito's documentary about the band, The Dicks From Texas, has been in the works for years and will screen Sunday, August 23 at 9:30 p.m. at Zeitgeist, 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. The screening will be followed by live performances by punk bands that appeared on the recent The Dicks From Texas and Friends tribute album, which features 28 songs written by The Dicks — including classics like "Bourgeois Fascist Pig" and "The Dicks Hate the Police" — as interpreted by 27 different bands. Marabito will attend the screening. Tickets are $10 and are available here. More info here.
