Aerialist Liza Rose and Ari Pelullo, aka LadyBeast, stage their second YardBaret at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday (July 31-Aug. 2) at a garden in Bywater. The evening includes a set by blues singer Sarah McCoy and the circus arts variety show, featuring aerialists, an illusionist, fire acts and an opera-singing clown as host. The restaurant pop-up Just Eat It offers a small menu including pineapple-pork kimchi sliders, fish or tofu tacos with watermelon-mint slash and more.
Rose will perform on a 24-foot aerial rigging. There also is a performance by levitator and illusionist Danny "SpecialHead" Wolverton, who memorably annoyed and then impressed the judges on America's Got Talent and compelled Howard Stern to retract a premature no-vote (video after the jump). The show is hosted by Guglielmo, who clowns and sings.
Tickets are $15 and available online, and the performance space address is shared with ticket buyers. Tickets also can be purchased at the door.
Rose and Pelullo also created an outdoor circus show named Cirque Copine. It has staged a few pop-up shows at Bywater spaces this summer and is developing a full theatrical show that it will bring to a theater space. Many of the performers also participate in a monthly exhibition called Fly Movement Salon at Cafe Istanbul, at which dancers and movement artists preview new and developing work.
Liza Rose performs an aerial routine.
Rose first performed in New Orleans with Tick Tock Dance at the New Orleans Fringe Festival and later moved to the city.
Many of the performers in YardBaret focus on aerial, acrobatic and circus arts.
