We can’t all afford a yacht and a jet ski, but you can afford to hit the water with free canoeing in New Orleans East and $5 kayaking on the Northshore. Plus: a flash mob on Frenchmen Street and two new destinations for health and fitness aficionados.

The new studio is set to open in early 2016 and will be located in a building called The Beacon. To celebrate, HigherPower offers discounts on select class packages and passes July 28-29.
David Woodard of Massey’s Professional Outfitters leads kayak trips down Bayou Castine at Mandevillle’s Northlake Nature Center on August 1. Gear is provided, and there are four start times: 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Older children are welcome; kayakers must weigh at least 50 pounds and anyone under age 13 must reserve a tandem kayak with an adult. New Orleans Track Club hosts the final All-Comers Track Meet
of the season at St. Martin’s Episcopal School (225 Green Acres Road, Metairie) at 7 p.m. August 1. Anyone of any age can compete for free and there’s water and Gatorade.
Also on Saturday (August 1): Broadmoor Arts & Wellness Center
(3900 Gen. Taylor St.) celebrates its official ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m. Once it’s up and running, the center will provide counseling and holistic wellness services as well as space for dance, yoga and fitness classes.
