For a concert series featuring different bands performing the music of longtime punk band The Pogues, the first band that Pogues co-founder Spider Stacy tapped was Lost Bayou Ramblers, the Grammy Award-nominated Cajun rock 'n' rollers.

The "Poguetry" series, Stacy says, was intended to "continue playing Pogues music but with fresh blood to invest it with the heart and guts it deserves." Stacy saw the Ramblers perform in 2010 after he moved to New Orleans. "They sounded like the bayou had saturated their very beings," he said in a statement. "This expressive howl of sunlight and dark water out of the belly of the world was powerful beyond words, and it was something I needed to experience.

Stacy will preview Poguetry with the Ramblers at 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at One Eyed Jacks (615 Toulouse St.). Lafeyette-New Orleans rock band Brass Bed (featuring the Ramblers' latest addition, Jonny Campos) and Meschiya Lake will open. Tickets are $12.
