Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has emerged as Hillary Clinton's major challenger for the Democratic Party notmination, will hold a rally in the New Orleans area July 26
, his campaign has announced.
Sanders will speak the night before at the Louisiana Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner
. Tickets for that event are $175. The rally will be free and held at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner (4545 Williams Blvd. — where Gov. Bobby Jindal recently made his presidential announcement). Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event is scheduled to end at 8 p.m.
According to the event website, Sanders "and local leaders" will discuss his aims to:
• Get big money out of politics
• Deal with obscene wealth and income inequality
• Combat climate change
• Make college education affordable
Sanders has proven popular on the road. His rally today in Phoenix, Arizona was moved to that city's convention center to accommodate the number of RSVPs the campaign had received.
