, the annual conference on New Orleans’ future put on by a group of the city's bloggers, announced the preliminary schedule for "Rising Tide X,"
its 10th edition, which will be held Aug. 29 at Xavier University.
A panel on local transportation (and the frustrations therein) will be moderated by Megan Braden-Perry (who wrote Gambit
's popular “Public Transit Tuesdays”
feature while she worked here). Panelists include Dan Favre (Bike Easy), Rachel Heiligman (Ride NOLA), Jeff Januszek (Fix My Streets) and Amanda Soprano, a public transportation user and frequent critic of the New Orleans Regional Transportation Association.
Rebecca Theim (author of Hell or High Water: the Battle to Save
The Times-Picayune) will talk about the changing face of local media, and Dr. Beth Blankenship will examine New Orleans' post-Katrina social services and domestic violence issues.
Other panels and discussions will include black women writers; short-term rentals; the post-Katrina diaspora; and other topics to be announced later.
No keynote speaker has been named. Past keynoters have included Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré; writer and comedian Harry Shearer; historians Lawrence Powell and Richard Campanella; and writers David Simon and Lolis Eric Elie.
In a departure from previous years, tickets to Rising Tide are free
