Following the release of its fifth album album amid its return to recording after a decade-long silence, Canadian "post-rock" ensemble Godspeed You! Black Emperor will tour the U.S. and Europe this fall. The band headlines The Joy Theater (1200 Canal St.) in New Orleans on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The band emerged from Montreal in the mid '90s as an overwhelming drone orchestra creating walls of sound with lengthy and beautiful, dissonant movements. Its 2000 album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven received universal acclaim. The band declared its hiatus a few years later then returned to recording with 2012's 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend and its latest, the March release Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress (Constellation Records).

The band has performed several times in New Orleans, including shows at the Mermaid Lounge in 1999 and TwiRoPa in 2003. Its most recent show in New Orleans was in 2012 at Tipitina's. Tickets to the Joy show are $25-$35 and available online at 11 a.m. Friday, July 10.
