The City of Gretna
is hosting its first food truck festival on June 20 at the Farmers Marketplace between 3rd and 4th streets on Huey P. Long Avenue.
“It’s the first time that Gretna has done this. We got the idea from basically just seeing and visiting different food truck festivals around town and seeing how popular they were,” said Gretna councilman Joe Marino, who worked with the city to create the event. “This is the test run. If it goes well, we want to do it again this summer.”
A portion of the proceeds will go directly to local charities, including the Westbank Boys and Girl’s Club
, Marino said.
“It’s as much about awareness about the actual organization as it is for raising the funds,” he said.
The seven participating food trucks include Diva Dawg, La Cocinita, Crepes a la Cart, Food Drunk, Frencheeze
and Kona Ice.
Wine and beer will be provided by the Gretna Economic Development Association
, iced tea and lemonade will be available for purchase from Raising Cane’s
and a local DJ has been hired to provide entertainment.
"We've got an overwhelming amount of support so far," Marino said. "And it's a great way to bring people into the city and to the downtown historic district."
The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit the event’s website.
