Films that blur the line between documentary and narrative fiction have become a genre unto themselves in recent years with memorable and hard-to-define works like Sarah Polley's Stories We Tell and Nick Cave's 20,000 Days on Earth. Actress also fits this elusive bill — or does it? A collaboration between filmmaker Robert Greene and actress Brandy Burre (The Wire), Actress offers a slice of Burre's life as she attempts a return to the acting career she gave up to raise a family. But the jury appears to be out on the precise mix of "real" and "artificial" on display in her story. But that is what makes films like this (potentially) interesting.
Shotgun Cinema will present a single screening of Actress tonight, Wednesday, March 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the Freeport-McMoRan Theater at the CAC, 900 Camp Street. Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door. More info here.
