Shoppers peruse racks at last fall's Warehouse Sale.
It's a trope of femininity: sample sales where women wrestle over discounted handbags and strip down to their Spanx in communal dressing rooms. On Sunday, March 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., this rite of fashionista passage takes over a banquet room at the Mellow Mushroom's Metairie location (3131 Veterans Memorial Blvd.).
"It's down, dirty and aggressive, but you will leave with the best deals from the most amazing boutiques in the city," says stylist Aimeé Gowland, who launched The Warehouse Sale
in 2012 with partner Corrie Pellerin. "We like to call it controlled chaos. It's not a pretty thing."
This year, ALG Style partners with CUE
to present their seventh warehouse sale. More than 20 boutiques
, including B. Boutique, C. Collection, CeCe Shoe, Clover Boutique, Core Creations, Elle Boutique, Emma's Shoes & Accessories, Fini Boutique, Flying Fox, Gia's Boutique, Hattie Sparks, HAUS 131, Haute Women's Boutique, Hemline Metairie, Maiya Boutique, Mimi NOLA, Naaz Boutique, Prêt à Porter Designs, Rushk, Shop Kay's, Sincerely Luxe, Swap Boutique, The Elizabeth Chronicles and Vita by Italy Direct, will sell overstock as well as new merchandise. Each store offers different discounts, and some reduce prices on the hour.
"At the end of the day [last time], there was a $10 rack," Pellerin says.
There's a free VIP shopping hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the first 100 Gambit
readers to register. (Reserve a spot here
.) There also will be cocktails, and Pellerin and Gowland of ALG Style
will be on hand to offer styling advice and feedback for the first hour. When it comes to shopping strategy, the duo has a few tips:
*Come early for the best inventory or late for the best prices. Some people stay the whole time.
*Eat a big breakfast, have a cocktail when you arrive and do a few laps around the room to see what's available.
*Make a shopping plan and grab the goods.
*Wear nice underwear, because the dressing room is just a large banquet room with lots of mirrors. "You can't be shy," Gowland says.
