The Japan Society of New Orleans continues its NOLA Japanese Cinema Series tonight, Monday, March 16, with a free screening of Hayao Miyazaki's classic animated film My Neighbor Totoro at Cafe Istanbul, 2372 St. Claude Ave. The New York Times described Miyazaki as "the world's greatest living animated-filmmaker — a designation that his fans at Disney and Pixar would be unlikely to challenge." The story of two young girls who find a forest filled with magical creatures, My Neighbor Totoro won Japan's Mainichi Award for best film of 1988.
Festivities begin at 6:30 with a "social hour" that includes complementary drinks and refreshments. The English-subtitled film will follow at 7:00 p.m. More info here.
