Rapper Missy Elliott
and R&B star Usher
join the lineup for the 21st annual Essence Festival
, which also features Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu and many other hip-hop, soul, jazz, funk and R&B performers.
Elliott's surprise showstopper at the 2015 Super Bowl pushed aside headlining act Katy Perry, with Elliott resurrecting her hits "Get Ur Freak On," "Work It" and "Lose Control." The appearance signaled her return to performing after a decade-long hiatus, as her last album was 2005's The Cookbook.
She recently appeared on a remix of Diplo and Skrillex's "Take U There."
Essence veteran Usher last performed in New Orleans in December
during his UR Experience tour to preview his upcoming 2015 album, which follows his 2012 hit Looking 4 Myself.
The 2015 Essence Festival is July 2-5 at the Superdome with events at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Tickets are available online
