For some, Lent means giving up culinary vices — alcohol, coffee, chocolate. For others, Lent is a time to enjoy fried fish.
While churches across the city play host to Friday fish fries during the Lenten season, a new 7th Ward restaurant will help fulfill fried fish (and chicken) cravings seven days a week.
Hooks (2100 St. Bernard Ave.) offers an impressive array of fried fish options, including snapper, tilapia, cod and catfish. Fried is the name of the game at Hooks, with other breaded-and-battered options including chicken livers, gizzards, oysters and shrimp. Crawfish pies, crab cakes and hush puppies are all available as well.
The restaurant also serves house-made desserts like carrot cake and ice-cold slushies.
