50 Shades of Grey expected to break box office records this weekend

Sadomasochism goes mainstream this weekend with the arrival in theaters of the film adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey. The reviews have been harsh — the film currently holds a paltry 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes — but that probably won't keep the film from breaking all-time box office records for a Presidents' Day weekend opening. Industry observers expect the film to take in as much as $80 million by Monday night.
