The Neville Brothers and family members and an all-star lineup will perform at the Saenger Theatre May 2. Aaron, Art, Charles and Cyril Neville will be joined by Ian and Ivan Neville and the concert also features Widespread Panic, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Galactic, Terence Blanchard, Anders Osborne, John Boutte and more guests will be announced.
Legendary producer Don Was, who organized a tribute to Dr. John
last year, is serving as musical director for the event.
The event is being billed as a "farewell celebration." The Nevilles' various musical careers have spanned six decades. Art Neville and the Hawketts released "Mardi Gras Mambo" in 1954. Aaron Neville's debut single "Tell It Like It Is" topped the Billboard soul charts in 1967. Art and later Cyril Neville were part of the seminal funk band The Meters, and in 1977, the Neville Brothers was formed. The Nevilles eventually took over the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival's longtime iconic closing slot and carried the mantle for New Orleans funk and R&B.
Tickets go on sale Feb. 16.
