Although the Blizzard of 2015 in the northeast has canceled Evil Twin brewer Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø’s visit to the Avenue Pub
(1732 St. Charles Ave., 504-586-9243) tonight, his beers arrived and the selection is spectacular. Starting at 5 p.m., the Pub will be tapping 17 Evil Twin beers, including several not ever available in Louisiana before, like Tørst Front Room, an American barleywine style;, Barrel Aged Lil B; and Tørst Back Room, which is an English-style barleywine.
Owner Polly Watts says that other beers on tap, such as Aún Más Café Jesús and Imperial Biscotti Break have all but disappeared from shelves in the state, so it might be the last opportunity for quite some time to enjoy them. And an additional dozen beers will be available, including Femme Fatale Sudachi, Ashtray Heart, and Nomader Weisse. Watts adds that when Jeppe’s visit is rescheduled (hopefully in early April), more special beers will be sent to enjoy.
In other Pub event news, the release of Saint Arnold Brewing’s Divine Reserve #15 will be celebrated with its tapping on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. alongside several cellared previous versions of the series: #5, #6, and #7. Tasting tickets to sample 4 oz pours of all vintages will be on sale for $18.
Also on Saturday, Mississippi’s Yalobusha Brewing founder Andy O’Bryan will be bringing a personally selected single barrel version of the brewery’s immensely popular Testify imperial milk stout. The beer will be tapped at 3 p.m.
For Mardi Gras season, the Avenue Pub will be hosting Bayou Teche’s five year anniversary party on Feb. 7
and releasing the NOLA-Stone brewery collaboration imperial IPA, The Bringer of Destruction on Feb. 14
